DESCRIPTION

The Town of Shelburne has taken the initiative to convert their old rail line in a
pleasant community walking path. This line, which once was used for transporting
passengers, mail, fish, boats and various other items. The last mail run was in
1967, and the last passenger run in 1969. The rails and ties were removed in 1984,
and the station torn down in 1985. In 1997 discussion began on developing the old
rail line into a trail, and in 1998 it was decided that the Shelburne Parks and
Recreation Commission woudl develop the 2.4km section of abandoned rail line from
King Street to Roseway River as a linear park.

We hiked the 2.4km section (one way, 4.8km round trip) from the trail head across
from the Community centre on King St. to the Falls Lane Bridge. This trail is smooth
strolling and a great way to walk through the community. There are potential loops to
return to the trailhead via town streets. A brochure for this trail is available.

Note: Trail description is from the The Rail Line Town of Shelburne brochure and
      TrailPAQ.
