DESCRIPTION

In 1987, Bowater Mersey established a 54 acre community park at Pine Grove in
recognition of Queens County's designation as the Forestry Capital of Canada
for that year. It takes about 45 minutes to enjoy the gravelled walking trails,
some of which are accessible to physically challenged visitors. The trail connects
the major points of interest at Pine Grove and the scenic picnic area overlooking
the Mersey River. The picnic area is well equipped with picnic tables, a fireplace,
and an artesian well to accommodate family or group outings. The marshy cove on the
site is being developed into a duck-breeding and resting area in cooperation with
Ducks Unlimited.

This area is a feeding and resting site for black ducks and teal. Great blue herons
and various species of gulls are also common visitors. The native forest flora is
complemented with rock, flower, and shrub gardens. Plantings of rhododendrons, azaleas,
heather, and heath add to the year-round beauty of Pine Grove. The park also has parking
and washrooms available for visitors.

Visitors are asked to not pick flowers and to stay on the trails, especially near the
duck breeding area.
