DESCRIPTION
Peter Point Trail starts on the Peskowesk Road at the Peter Point parking lot and leads
to a vast sandy beach. It is approximately a 1.5 hour hike which takes you to a scenic
view of Kejimkujik Lake, Peale Island, and Merrymakedge Beach. Along the way are
three different natural tree stands : Red Maple, Hemlock, and Old Growth (Beech & Sugar
Maple). All three areas are great places for bird watching.
There is little elevation change on this trail except for the drumlin that starts about
two thirds along the way, with a gradual dip at the end of the trail. Hiking this trail
in the fall assures beautiful views with the autumn colors. Many Cinnamon Fern
in the swamps turn bright orange in the fall.
If you are skiing this trail in the winter, do not try to cut it short by crossing over
Mill Bay. The ice conditions are very harsh and are unsafe.
Kejimkujik is a National Park. Phone the park Visitor Centre at (902) 682-2772
for back-country maps, reservations (for regular and back-country sites),
information on park regulations, and any additional information. ** Note: Those
intending to camp at a back-country site must first register at the park Visitor Centre.
