DESCRIPTION
This trail begins at the Farmlands Trail parking lot. It is an easy trail that
takes about 45 minutes to complete and is best done in early morning or
late afternoon. Farmlands Trail has some steep areas that are challenging
for cross country skiers but are OK for snowshoeing.
The trail passes mossy lowlands up a drumlin to the site of an old farm. It is
lined with Pine, Hemlock, Balsam Fir and Beech trees with a new growth of White
Pine taking over the abandoned farm. This site of the old Peter Rogers farm
offers a fine example of how natural succession will take over abandoned
drumlin farms.
Roadside flowers such as Hawkweed and Daisy, along with Juniper bushes and
young pines have invaded the old field. A few old apple trees still survive
from the old orchard. The collection of softwoods and flowers along the trail
create exhilarating smells. There is one resting spot on a log bench en route.
Kejimkujik is a National Park. Phone the park Visitor Centre at (902) 682-2772
for back-country maps, reservations (for regular and back-country sites),
information on park regulations, and any additional information. Those intending
to camp at a back-country site must first register at the park Visitor Centre.
