DESCRIPTION
This 4 km round trip hike is located in the scenic Amherst Shore Provincial
Park. For the first part of the trail, you travel along a 1.5 km loop amongst a
forest of aspen, hemlock, birch, maple and spruce. To the highway underpass it
is a fairly simple hike except for the barely marked trail. The rest of the
trail leads you for 2.5 km through a dirt path amongst yellow and white birch,
wild rose bushes and maple trees to the Amherst Shore where you have a
spectacular view of Northumberland Strait, red sand beach and sandstone cliffs.
Bring your camera and a bathing suit on this trail!
Another trail opportunity exists south of the campground which runs along Annabelles
Brook through an attractive mixed forest, returning to the campground (approx.3km).
One may camp at the campground, and there is also an unsupervised beach with
washrooms, parking and change rooms. There is a gas station nearby.
