DIRECTIONS
From highway 102, take exit 14. Turn towards "Old Barns" at the stop sign
and continue for 4km to a small pull-off parking area on the right (where
the Salmon River becomes visible). This is the look off area and here you
can view the tidal bore; a rushing of incoming tidal waters meeting the
outflow of water from the Salmon river. The result is a large standing
wave that varies in size depending on the phase of the moon and weather.
You can also access the trail at Victoria Park in Truro or shortly after
leaving the 102 highway (towards Old Barns) just before the Sheleilagh
House restaurant (great fish and chips!). The trail crosses the road here.

DESCRIPTION
The Cobequid Trail is built on a section of abandoned rail line and stretches
from the look off to Victoria Park in Truro. The trail has a gravel tread and
is wide and flat due to it being an old rail-bed. This makes it suitable for
a wide range of abilities. Motorized use is prohibited. The trail will take you
through a marshland now used for farming. The dykes you see here were originally
built by the Acadians to prevent tidal waters from flooding the surrounding land;
creating more land available for farming. As you pass through the surrounding
farmlands watch for ospreys, eagles and herons fishing in the Salmon River.
The trail's theme is different on the east side of the Trans Canada Highway.
Here you will travel through the Town of Truro and more industrial areas. The
trail here is a pleasant way to get from place to place. Small song birds are
also common; they are quite happy in these "fringe" areas. Presently you can
connect to Victoria Park following existing streets. A nice walk to take in
some of the old architecture of Truro.
